Why Walthamstow drivers use us

A proper workshop

Wheels are refinished properly, not touched up on the kerb.

Diamond cut done right

Faces re-machined on a lathe, not painted over.

Four miles, and we say what it needs before you set off

Send a photograph first. If the wheel is not worth doing, or if paint makes more sense than a machined face, you will know before you drive anywhere.

The damage we see most in Walthamstow

01

Planters and modal filters. E17 is full of them, and the gaps left for cars are narrower than they look. A wheel eased past a planter kerb at an angle picks up a long scrape down the rim rather than a single scuff.

02

The market end of the High Street. Loading, unloading and nose-in parking against a high kerb all day. Nearside fronts, mostly.

03

Lea Bridge Road and Forest Road. Both busy, both patched. A rim that drops into a bad patch at speed comes away bent, and that is the shake through the steering.

Roads we see most
  • Hoe Street
  • Forest Road
  • Blackhorse Road
  • Lea Bridge Road
  • Walthamstow Village
  • Markhouse Road

Walthamstow is about four miles from the workshop, down through Leyton. The Village and the streets off Hoe Street are Victorian terraces with permit bays and planters, and almost nothing has a driveway, so a mobile visit rarely works there and we will say so rather than turn up and find out. Towards Blackhorse Road there is more room and some of the newer blocks park off the road. Most E17 customers bring the car down and leave it with us.

Common questions

Do you cover Walthamstow and E17?

Yes, all of E17, including the Village, Blackhorse Road and down towards Markhouse Road. The workshop is on Nursery Lane in Forest Gate, about four miles south.

Is four miles too far to bring the car?

It is one trip down through Leyton and the car stays with us while it is done. Send a photograph first so you know what it needs before you set off.

The planters have scraped my rim right along. Can that be fixed?

Usually, yes. A long scrape down the outer rim is a refinish rather than a structural problem, as long as the wheel is not cracked or buckled with it. Send a photo straight on and we will tell you.

I have no driveway. Does that rule out a mobile visit?

In most of E17, yes, and that is the honest answer. We need somewhere safe and legal to work, off the public highway. Most people here find it simpler to drop the car with us.

There is a crack in the rim. Can it be welded?

Sometimes. A crack in the right place can be welded and refinished. One across a spoke or into the mounting face is not worth trusting, and we will not sign it off as safe.

What do you need from me to give a price?

Straight on photos of the wheels that need doing, taken in daylight rather than under a streetlight, and what the car is. We can usually price it from that.

Can I bring just the wheels in?

Yes, and from four miles away a lot of people do. If you have a spare set, put the damaged ones in the boot and bring them down without the car.

Do you cover Leyton and Leytonstone as well?

Yes, both, and they are on the way down from E17.
