Why Barking drivers use us

A proper workshop

Wheels are refinished properly, not touched up on the kerb.

Diamond cut done right

Faces re-machined on a lathe, not painted over.

Worth the three miles for a machined face

A diamond cut wheel has to go on a lathe, and the lathe is at Nursery Lane. Anyone offering to do a machined face on your driveway is painting over it.

The damage we see most in Barking

01

Underground bays at Barking Riverside. The new blocks park below ground and the ramps are tight with concrete kerbs on both sides. A wheel that catches one of those on the way in comes away with a flat spot of missing lacquer rather than a light scuff.

02

The A13 and Ripple Road. Fast dual carriageway that has been resurfaced in patches. A rim that drops into a bad joint at that speed bends, and you feel it through the steering before you see it.

03

Market day round East Street. Cars go into whatever gap is left, tight against a high kerb, and a nearside front takes it.

Roads we see most
  • Longbridge Road
  • Ripple Road
  • East Street
  • Abbey Road
  • Barking Riverside
  • Movers Lane

Barking is about three miles from the workshop, straight along the A13 or round by Ripple Road, and most IG11 customers find it easier to drive down than to find us a space at their end. The terraces off Longbridge Road are permit bays with nothing spare. Barking Riverside and the newer blocks have parking underneath, which is where a lot of the kerbing happens in the first place. Where coming down does not suit, a mobile visit is the option.

Common questions

Do you cover Barking and IG11?

Yes, all of it, including Barking Riverside, Creekmouth and up towards Movers Lane. The workshop is on Nursery Lane in Forest Gate, about three miles away along the A13.

Can you work in an underground car park?

Sometimes, if there is headroom, level ground and room to get round the car, and if the building allows it. A painted finish can be done that way. A diamond cut face cannot, because it has to go on the lathe. Ask and we will give you a straight answer.

I hit something on the A13 and the steering shakes. What is that?

Usually a buckled rim. The wheel comes off and goes on a jig so we can see how far out it is. Some straighten, some are cracked as well, and we will tell you which yours is before anything is done to it.

Is three miles too far to bring the car?

Most people do not think so, because it is one trip down the A13 and the car is left with us. Ring first so we know it is coming.

There is a crack in the rim. Can it be welded?

Sometimes. A crack in the right place can be welded and refinished. One across a spoke or into the mounting face is not worth trusting, and we will not sign that off as safe.

What do you need from me to give a price?

What the car is, and a clear picture of each damaged wheel taken square on in good light. From that we can give you a price in writing.

Do you do trade work for dealers in Barking?

Yes. There is a fair amount of motor trade through IG11 and some of what we do is their stock. Ask about an account if it is regular.

Can I bring just the wheels in?

Yes. If you have a spare set, put the damaged ones in the boot and bring them down without the car.
