Three miles away, IG1
Alloy Wheel Repair in Ilford
Wheel Repair Ltd refurbishes alloy wheels at its workshop on Nursery Lane in Forest Gate, about three miles from Ilford. Most IG1 customers come down Romford Road and leave the car or the wheels with us. A mobile visit is available where that is easier.
Why Ilford drivers use us
Wheels are refinished properly, not touched up on the kerb.
Faces re-machined on a lathe, not painted over.
Plenty of IG1 work comes from drivers who are out all day. Tell us when the car is off the road and we will work round it.

What people say
The damage we see most in Ilford
Long shifts, kerbed rims. There is a lot of private hire work in IG1, and a car that is out all day picks up kerb damage far quicker than one that sits on a drive.
The town centre gyratory. Traffic runs one way round Ilford Hill and Winston Way, and a wheel finds the kerb on the turn rather than on a straight road.
Multi-storey ramps. The decks at Exchange Ilford spiral tight, and it is usually the wheel on the inside of the turn that clips the concrete edge.

Ilford is three miles east of the workshop, straight down Romford Road, so most IG1 customers do it in one run and leave the car with us. Round Cranbrook Road and the town centre it is permit bays and multi-storey decks. Out towards Ley Street and Green Lane there are more houses with a drive. Where coming down is awkward, a mobile visit is the option.
Common questions
Do you cover Ilford and IG1?
Yes, all of IG1. Wheel Repair Ltd works from Nursery Lane in Forest Gate, about three miles down Romford Road. Most people bring the car or the wheels in, and a mobile visit is available where that is easier.
Is it worth refurbishing the wheels on a private hire car?
Usually. Kerbed rims look poor on a car people are paying to sit in, and a scuff that has gone through to bare metal only gets worse. Send a photo and we will tell you what it needs.
What happens to the tyre while the wheel is done?
It comes off, so the rim can be worked on properly and balanced afterwards. The same tyres go back on before the car leaves.
My wheels have pressure sensors in them. Is that a problem?
No. The sensors come off with the tyre and go back on afterwards. Tell us the car when you send the photo so we know what is in there.
Do I need to ring first, or can I turn up?
Ring first. What is already in the workshop decides when yours can go on, and we would rather tell you straight than have you drive three miles for nothing.
A kerb has taken a chunk out of the rim edge. Can that be filled?
Usually. The lip is built back up, shaped and refinished so the edge runs straight again. If it has gone too deep, or the rim is cracked behind it, we will say so.
Is a scuffed wheel an MOT problem?
No, a scuff is cosmetic. A crack or a buckle is a different matter, because the tyre can lose pressure without warning. If you are not sure which you have, send a photo.
Can you refinish wheels in a different colour?
Yes, plenty go out in anthracite, gunmetal or black. Say what you are after when you send the photo and we will tell you whether it suits that wheel.
